Royal Canadian Legion Literary Competition
Each fall all local schools are invited to submit entries into the Canada wide Literary Contest. Categories of Essay’s Poetry and Posters are judged just before or around Remembrance Day and the winners receive a monetary sum in each of the categories in all grades. Posters can be black and white or colour. The theme for all entries is one of Remembrance. A group of volunteer judges are gathered and go through the process of picking winners. The First Place winners go on to the next level. The Branch, then Zone and District entries are judged again and awarded First Place prizes and go onward to Provincial and then to Dominion wide. If you would like to be judge at this please contact our office at 613-354-5275. Pictures will be uploaded of all school winners. A picture of the Southview Public School winning students along with Past President Jim Gardner (right) and past Youth Education chair Chris Ingersoll (left) are now in the Gallery. A student from Cornerstone Academy with presenter Chris Ingersoll as well as a student from Selby Public School are both now in the Gallery. Recently Past President Jim Gardner presented a prize to a student from NDSS. One of her submissions went on to the District Level.
Public Speaking Competition
Early in the New Year all schools in the Napanee area are invited to join in the Public Speaking competition. Students are judged at their own schools by a panel of judges that attend the speaking events. First place winners also go on to the next level from Branch, Zone and District. They move forward through the levels until a Canada wide winner is chosen. We hope to be at the schools in the first two weeks of February for the Branch level of Public Speaking.
